I began Solutions for Eating Disorders in 2008 with the passion and desire to make a difference and help end the battle with the self that often accompanies eating disorders. Although eating disorders serve a purpose and may provide a form of comfort, they leave the sufferer feeling exhausted, lonely, and still not "good enough". Having an eating disorder is all encompassing- it takes over your thoughts, your relationships, and becomes part of your identity. Being preoccupied with eating disorder thoughts and behaviors takes you away from other aspects of your life- even things you used to enjoy. It may seem impossible and scary to think about what you and your life would be like without your eating disorder, but I know that on the other side of the fear is the possibility of the life you have always wanted. From first hand experience, I truly know that you do not need your eating disorder to have the life you want.
Thia is a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC45386) and an Art Therapist registered with the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATR 07-102) with over 15 years of experience.
Thia graduated from Loyola Marymount University with her Master of Arts degree in Marital and Family Therapy and specialized training in Clinical Art Therapy. Thia also has a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.
Thia began her clinical work with eating disorders as a therapist in the inpatient and partial hospitalization eating disorders program at BHC Alhambra Hospital. While working in the hospital setting, Thia provided individual, group, and family therapy. By incorporating her art therapy skills, Thia developed and facilitated a variety of specialized groups including body image art therapy, and multifamily art therapy.
Thia served as a primary therapist at Center for Discovery and Adolescent Change residential treatment center for eating disorders. While at Center for Discovery, Thia worked intensively with adolescents and their families to stabilize eating disorder behaviors and improve family functioning and relationships.
Thia has also served as a Clinical Staff member in The Susan B. Krevoy Eating Disorders Program at the Wright Institute Los Angeles, as a Counselor at Woodbury University in Burbank, and as a therapist at Silverlake Medical Center in Rosemead.
